Using Membership to Light a Company’s Fire

The two companies, Eastern Fire and Trueline, couldn’t be more different. One is a fire protection services and equipment provider headquartered in Auburn and Bangor. The other is a full-service marketing and branding firm based in Portland but with a completely remote workforce. But the two organizations have at least one thing in common: membership in ABC Maine.

This month, Eastern Fire is celebrating 46 years of membership; Trueline has been in ABC Maine for a year. And while the length of time in our club is separated by 45 years, the two companies say they receive similar benefits from being a part of the organization.

“Networking at various events has helped grow our company and business, and we really have enjoyed meeting other people in the industry,” says Marc Tardif, president of Eastern Fire.

Erica Berry, Trueline’s longtime director of marketing, echoes Tardif’s thoughts and says that being a part of ABC Maine has been a great thing for her company. After attending the ABC Maine holiday dinner party in December, her first ABC Maine event, Berry says she appreciates the passion members have for the organization and its mission.

“It’s been an incredible experience partnering with ABC Maine to share their story and promote the myriad benefits they provide to members. After my first event I walked away with new connections—everyone is friendly and knowledgeable and willing to share what they know,” Berry says. “This is an organization anyone with ties to the construction industry needs to be a part of.”

We think the same would be said by the other 13 companies who joined ABC Maine in February.

BUILDING A NETWORK

With 182 member organizations, companies like Eastern Fire and people like Tardif can tout the benefits of being part of ABC Maine. Those include networking opportunities and political action.

“ABC Maine’s political involvement with regulatory issues effecting the industry has a profound effect on our business,” Tardif says.

We’re proud to know that ABC Maine has had this kind of impact on a company that started doing business when colored televisions, silly putty and the slinky were new inventions.

In addition to the benefits Tardif and so many others appreciate, ABC Maine offers an apprenticeship program that includes classroom and on-the-job training. We also offer workforce and business development, discount programs, continuing education and more. We are also the voice of the merit shop, and it’s our responsibility to ensure your voice is heard.
