Project Management 1: Introduction

Introduction to Project Management at Wentworth Institute of Technology is designed to give you the fundamentals of Project Management as it applies to industries within the built environment, including but not limited to, leading construction, electrical, engineering, and architecture projects. Through seven interactive online modules, you will gain the tools to plan, implement, and manage projects during the entire life cycle.

What you will learn:

  • Enhance your understanding of project management, including the definition, attributes, deliverables, constraints, and life cycle phases of a project. Develop skills to effectively plan and initiate a project, including creating project charters/scopes, engaging stakeholders, and utilizing templates for successful project initiation.
  • Obtain the knowledge and ability to plan and manage project resources, budgets, risks, and communication, ensuring efficient project execution and control. Gain expertise to build and lead effective project teams, including team formation, development stages, conflict resolution, and utilizing communication tools for enhanced teamwork.
  • Acquire techniques to monitor and control project progress, including project control processes, schedule adjustments, resource-constrained network diagrams, and effective resource requirements planning.
  • Practice skills for successful project closure, including taking necessary actions, conducting post-project evaluations, leveraging lessons learned, and organizing/archiving project documents for future reference.
  • Build proficiency in project management through the preparation and delivery of individual project presentations, showcasing project management techniques, processes, and self-assessment of further skill development needs.

Time Commitment:
7-Weeks | 35 Hours
You can expect to commit up to approximately five (5) hours per week on readings, exercises, and assignments. Students have up to ten (10) weeks to complete the workshop.

Credentials Awarded:
